:: Parental Resources: Do not...

  1. Do not own your child's story. Remember parents, this is your child's story and pain. You can not fix or heal this. Your role is NOT to "fix" this problem. Your role is to give your child a family and environment that encourages love and healing.
  2. Do not entertain a conversation with another person regarding your child's story in front of your child. You never know what a stranger or friend may say. Even if it is well intended, the child will not understand. Rehearse a canned and respectful line to answer the person's lingering question of adoption and move onto another topic.
  3. Do not tell your child that you "understand" unless you too were physically abandoned, lived in an orphanage and was adopted to a new family
