I am a mother of two boys; sister; aunt; friend; business woman; Canadian citizen and Vancouver resident. Although that may seem quite commonplace, my start in this world is far from ordinary. I was physically abandoned on a doorstep shortly after my birth in a small town in Canada on October 14, 1977. I lived in an orphanage for four months, drugged on Phenobarbital to stifle my cries. In early 1978 I was permanently adopted to a loving home. To this day, I know nothing about my birth, circumstances of my abandonment and continue to live with this mystery, trauma and reactive attachment disorder. I have accepted that I may never know the people responsible for creating and carrying my life. Although this is not an ideal situation for any infant, I do recognize how fortunate I am to have been abandoned in Canada. For the millions of orphans throughout this earth, the majority have not been handed the same "fortune" leaving these babies and children silently suffering…waiting, hoping, coping and simply surviving. I have dreamt of the day to "pay it back" and now feel strong enough to conquer this personal task and get upfront and personal with this very traumatic issue. I have partnered on a humanitarian mission with The House of Angels and will be embarking to Romania on October 19, 2007. During my stay, I will live, eat and sleep at the facility in the hills of Gaesti, Romania. I will devote my time, love and energy to these babies and children. I hope that my smallest of an imprint will give some temporary joy and comfort. I will also cuddle, hold, feed, change, play, create art and aid in physical therapy. I will also Blog my mission daily and post photos. With sponsorship from The England Group and Syntric Design, I have been provided with the financial means to travel to Romania and make a difference in the lives of these orphans. With your help, I will arrive bearing a special item for each child and funds for House of Angels. Your monetary donation is crucial to the success of the House of Angels and is greatly appreciated. These funds will go 100% to the House of Angels. This will aid them with food, clothing and running the facility. To donate by mail, simply print and complete a copy of the Donation Form. Your cheque should be made payable to: Little Miracles Organization. Mail your cheque and donation form to: The Keall Foundation Tax receipts are issued for donations of $20.00 or more. Due to the cost of shipping to Romania, I am primarily accepting monetary donations. However, I could not arrive at the House of Angels without something for each child! Below you will see a list of names of the children at House of Angels. They are all equally in need, and will all equally appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. I am seeking a brand new item for each child. These items do not have to be lavish and may be modest. They should be durable and geared in mind for the age range of the child. Please keep in mind that the winter will be approaching at the time of my mission, so clothing for the children should be warm. If you wish to donate an item, please call me directly at 604-786-8581 and I can pick up at your office or home. I aim to have all the items collected by October 12, 2007. I can not accommodate an item that weighs more than 5 pounds. Optional: You may also include a special note/card that can be translated to the child. In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. Do Not Include: Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate, candy or food; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans or heavy items.
